Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. → Hamlet was written by Shakespeare.Shakespeare escribió Hamlet. → Hamlet fue escrito por Shakespeare.
They are repairing the road. → The road is being repaired.Están arreglando la carretera.
Someone has stolen my bike. → My bike has been stolen.

TiempoActivaPasiva
Present simpleThey clean the room. The room is cleaned.
Present continuousThey are cleaning the room. The room is being cleaned.
Past simpleThey cleaned the room. The room was cleaned.
Past continuousThey were cleaning the room. The room was being cleaned.

Modal perfectoThey should have cleaned the room. The room should have been cleaned.

«Have cleaned» (2 verbos) → «have been cleaned» (3 verbos).

They gave Laura a prize. → Laura was given a prize.Más natural: la persona como sujeto.
They gave Laura a prize. → A prize was given to Laura.Correcta, pero más formal. Fíjate en el «to».

Este punto aparece en rephrasing muchas veces: «They offered me a job» → «I was offered a job».

Pasiva impersonal: «It is said that…»

ActivaCon «It»Con sujeto personal
People say that he is rich.It is said that he is rich.He is said to be rich.
People believe that she lives abroad. It is believed that she lives abroad. She is believed to live abroad.
They think the thief escaped. It is thought that the thief escaped. The thief is thought to have escaped.
People expect prices to rise.It is expected that prices will rise.Prices are expected to rise.

La clave está en el infinitivo: si la acción ocurre a la vez que el verbo de opinión, usa to + infinitivo (to be, to live). Si la acción es anterior, usa to have + participio (to have escaped).

Practicar la pasiva

Have something done (pasiva causativa)

I had my hair cut yesterday.
We are having the kitchen painted.Nos están pintando la cocina.
She got her phone repaired.Le arreglaron el móvil.
He had his wallet stolen on the bus.

Decir «I cut my hair» cuando fuiste a la peluquería. Lo correcto es «I had my hair cut».

It is often argued that social media isolates young people.A menudo se dice que…
It is widely believed that technology makes our lives easier.Se cree de forma generalizada que…
More measures should be taken to protect the environment.Se deberían tomar más medidas…
Public transport must be improved in rural areas.

+

Solo cuando el agente aporta información relevante: «Guernica was painted by Picasso». Si el agente es «people», «someone» o «they», se omite.

¿Qué diferencia hay entre «It is said that» y «He is said to»?

+

¿Qué es «have something done»?

+

Es la pasiva causativa: indica que otra persona hace algo por ti, por ejemplo «I had my hair cut» (me corté el pelo en la peluquería).
